FOREIGN CONCEPT
We were tasked with transforming a 3,500-square-foot L-shaped space into an intimate dining area that would reflect the nuanced flavors of the menu—“a nod to the Asian, but not over the top,” as we envisioned. Our first step was to break up the layout with custom logo screens, blending colonial standards with a modern twist. This approach divided the dining area into distinct zones: an open kitchen on one side, a charcuterie bar on the other, and a smaller lounge, all separated by these stylish screens.
Inspired by the diverse influences of the menu, we infused the design with elements from across Asia. We framed and hung antique moon-cake molds from China as artwork, and commissioned chinoiserie-inspired murals for the walls. Underfoot, Persian rugs add texture to the dark hardwood flooring, and rattan-backed chairs are paired with custom tables created in collaboration with Room B. This fusion of historically inspired artifacts with contemporary touches has resulted in a beautifully new and eclectic space.
