Design Crush – Shinola Hotel, Detroit

A boutique hotel in the heart of Detroit’s historic Woodward shopping district has our attention this month!

The lobby and lounge is a spectacular view in itself and leaves visitors in awe! Here you can see different shades of blue that compliment the natural wood and cream coloured walls. All walls are decorated with paintings, prints and wall decor which adds character to this social gathering spot. The marble fireplace serves as a focal point and with the grand staircase, elevates the volume in the space. This staircase to the mezzanine is part of the building’s original structure and was preserved with a metalwork bannister. The variety in furnishings is due to Gachot Studios and their custom designed details and the throw pillows are from French textile designers, Toyine and Le Manach.

The combination of materials in the boutique ensuite just screams lavish! The overall interior of this bathroom is simplistic with the white and black polished tile balancing the marble bathtub and wood vanity. Complete with chrome faucets, the double vanity is in harmony with the rest of the hotel.

These quaint bedrooms are not ones to miss out on! The massive windows in every room reflect the exterior of the Shinola Hotel. Using light, neutral colours throughout the interior allows the black window casings to accent the room and let the city view be the art. The golden floor to ceiling drapery adds a layer of interest in the bedroom and nods to the warm toned flooring and soft grey area rug. The light wood bed frames fill the space, finished with cream upholstered headboards and white bedding.

The dining room of the hotel draws attention to the historic structure through the use of wood details, checkered flooring and warm lights. A thoughtfully-curated sense of style for sure and we are crushing on it!
