I am so excited to reveal that I am renovating my own home! This 60’s bungalow is getting a huge makeover from top to bottom. Our gorgeous midcentury dream as I called, took us 13 years to renovate from top to bottom. During the pandemic, I got antsy like most people and wanted to start re-renovating and my husband Jason was not about it. So we bought a new home to renovate, why not!? In this months newsletter I am giving you a little sneak peek into what the plan is for the home including the exterior which is pictured above. This home will be our dream home and I am designing it to work for our lifestyle. Pulling out all the stops to make this a home we will love for a long time. Working with my best suppliers, trades and contractors to make this home come to life and take you along the journey with YouTube series as well as check-ins on The Marilyn Denis Show. KITCHEN

I am calling this look, New Traditional. A warm and inviting space with an elegant and timeless feel but also one that feels modern and elevated. The open concept kitchen will be the heart of the home and where we will be doing all of our entertaining. We are putting in a cathedral ceiling to make the house feel open and airy. A gorgeous chevron floor reminds me of a timeless Parisian apartment, this will be throughout the home for consistency (and because I love it so much). The rich dark walnut cabinets paired with cream help to add warmth and break up all the millwork in the kitchen. Organic rectangular tiles as the backslash and a neutral quartz counter help the perimeter of the kitchen come to life while the island is the show stopper with a gorgeous granite counter top, curved on the one side to allow for seats all the way around. Perfect to host the most epic of parties.

MUDROOM / LAUNDRY

A bold space that makes an impact. Painted cabinetry in a gorgeous terracotta, checkerboard floors for that traditional nod will make this a space that will have me loving doing laundry.

GUEST BATHROOM

The guest bath will also act as a powder room, so I wanted to create a little jewel of a place. Normally I am all about a wallpaper moment in a powder room, however with this one having a tub, I opted for a gorgeous patterned floor. A lovely paisley and botanical inspired floor, with a mint green wall tile that wraps the bathroom, and dark walnut cabinets will make this space have all the traditional feels.

PRIMARY BATHROOM

This space will be rich and warm. With so many exciting moments, I wanted this to be a space that is comforting and soothing. The bold terracotta coloured tile in the shower, a stunning Dekton counter top that wraps around the window backsplash (looks like a gorgeous natural stone but so much more durable), and the cream coloured tile floor work seamlessly together. Brass fixtures and floating round mirrors help to create some softness but make it feel like a boutique hotel bath.

BASEMENT

We wanted to design the basement so that we would actually use the space. Most basements becoming catch-all’s or an after-thought but for us it was top of mind.

The Lounge: With budgets getting up there, we opted for an electric fireplace but one that still had heat output. The perfect addition to make this space feel more inviting.

Games area: During the pandemic we have started to get into card games and this is the perfect area to host poker night.

Gym: A gym was a must for our at home work outs. One that not only looks great, but will motivate us to want to use the space.

Fireplace: Napoloen

Furniture: Mobilia

BASEMENT BATHROOM

This spa bath has a stellar organic vibe. Rich green tiles to envelope the shower with a steam unit, marble mosaic tiles for the floor for a classic touch, gorgeous brass fixtures and a stunning black counter top for a statement!
