Design Crush – Epoca, Paris

Hello yellow! This month’s Design Crush is all about Epoca restaurant. We are crushing hard on the super chic black and yellow colour palette. Keep scrolling to read about this retro restaurant in the heart of Paris!

The bar of this restaurant is defined by the clean black lines and contrasting yellow. The combination of design details such as the brass hooks under the countertop, black framed bar front and tile mosaic flooring surrounding make this area a focal point. The black barstools emphasize the solid lines and curved forms. For a touch of glam, two globe lamps with a brass finish are incorporated into the bar design and set a chic ambiance.

Through the use of vertical lined wallpaper and the wall width mirror above the banquette, the space is expanded and volume is increased. Black features such as the Thonet style chairs, wainscotting and the black in the varied patterns makes the golden tones stand out. The vertical stripes on the wall direct your eye to the ceiling which has an edge detail, centred with a five globe chandelier. Amongst the seating is the golden upholstered banquette that pops through the black lines.

The contrasting palette in the bathroom is inverted. The matte black tile, sink and plumbing conceals the less appealing elements of the bathroom and, in turn, allow the brass faucet, mirror and sconce to stand out. The two lamp sconce is especially interesting. The forms in the bathroom remain in unity with the rest of the restaurant. With minimal colour and curved forms, Epoca shows the masculine side of a vintage and graceful interior.
