Project of the Month – Chinook Park Residence

This was a full home renovation project with homely features and earth tones that make this home a one of a kind. A full home renovation of a four-level split that was built in the 50s. We wanted to give the home a modern update and make it work for the new homeowners. We couldn’t be happier with the end result, a home that is modern but also well curated.

Starting with the entryway, we gave it a full remodel with new patterned tile, a new pendant, and black accents. Nothing says “welcome” like sleek finishes and a bench in the entry.

Just a few stairs up, where there was a wall, we opened up and replaced it with black framed glass that come to a point and got rid of the door. This made the office space feel larger and gave the hallway more natural light. Peaking through in the hallway is the powder room that we elevated with the use of a graphic wallpaper and a custom vanity. The green and touch of orange are giving us spring vibes all year round.

With small kitchens, an island makes all the difference. An extra surface to place things down or prep food. We opted for a slim custom island with gold banding on the legs and grey countertop. For a bold look, we amped the cabinetry with black panel door fronts. The white, contrasting backsplash appears seamless, running to the bulkhead behind the hood fan for a complete and polished look in the kitchen. On the opposite wall is the dining area. We pushed out the exterior walls in this area to accommodate an oversized banquette, perfect for entertaining. Here, we pulled in some of the earth tones with the upholstered olive green seat.

One of the main features of the living area is the elongated hexagon tile on the fireplace facade. This helps unify the home by bringing in black as an accent in the living room. Another favourite of ours is the rust coloured velvet swivel chairs that add the perfect pop of colour. Combined with leather furniture pieces and patterned pillows, it provides a mix of visual interest and we are loving all of it!

Features such as this wall mounted shelving unit in the master bedroom make spaces so unique. Paying homage to this midcentury split level, the vintage wall unit is perfect for displaying personal items and adding some interesting greenery that all together creates a very inviting space. We chose a green velvet bed frame with some tufting to emphasize the earth tones that fit so well with the area rug. This handmade, mustard yellow throw blanket is just the finishing touch to the bedding that brightens the space while the subtle wallpaper and drapery sheers add another level or soft textures that really capture that master retreat feel. We gave the ensuite another element of surprise with a fully tiled accent wall behind the freestanding tub. This faux wood tile adds warmth to the space and is a great contrast to the gray floor tile and dark vanity.

With this renovation, we had so much fun pulling different finishes and fabrics to make a stunning, unique home.
