PLANTA Yorkville, Toronto

PLANTA Yorkville, Toronto

This month we are swooning over the botanical jungle that is PLANTA, a newly opened restaurant in Toronto. No one likes a pattern mix more than we do, so this definitely caught our attention.

PLANTA Yorkville is a vegan restaurant in Toronto, ON with elegant appeal. You will notice a mix of patterned tiles, fabrics and botanical wallpaper to bring it all together. The exterior demonstrates this on the facade, with a geometric patterned tile and striped awning. Geometric tile is carried through to the host desk. With simple charcoal reception desks, the visitors have a chance to look at the more exciting elements in the space. We love mixing patterns, so it’s no surprise that this restaurant caught our eye.

The open seating consists of upholstered chairs and banquettes, and checkered tile flooring. The black accents in the floor and window panes tie the mix of patterned fabric together with white as the underlying canvas. This is shown through the white ceiling and bulkheads. Organic details such as the curved ceiling and botanic mural and wood tables warm up the dining space and encourage a calm setting while following their brand of vegan dishes.

Layers! The varying ceiling heights create layers in the dining hall. This not only function to control the acoustics in the restaurant but also divide different zones, making every set of seating a new experience. The higher ceiling heights create more volume in the space and provide opportunity to add interesting elements and detailed lighting fixtures. There is booth seating with two-tone upholstery. The sage green back ties in the botanical wallpaper. By making it a higher back, the covered walls don’t become too overwhelming.

No restaurant is complete without a bar. The bar featured in PLANTA Yorkville stands out with the front side being cladded in the same patterned tile as the exterior. The bar is adjacent to the entry with a lounge between. This lounge area incorporates hanging orb chairs in front of the palm wallpaper for maximum Cali vibes. Beyond the pattern and colour, there is also texture. With it being a colour similar to the host desks, the bar counter has a wave texture that comes with natural stone.

PLANTA Yorkville is a large restaurant in its interior. That means space for more seating areas. With a floor to ceiling storage space for wine bottles and copper wire-like chairs, a slightly different atmosphere is created. To bring the space together, the same botanical wallpaper continues through.

Even with the variety in pattern, colour and texture, this restaurant flows together because of the underlying colours and featured wallpaper.
