Friday Favourites

Happy Friday, design lovers! The use of pattern is an AVD staple when it comes to design. Combining patterns with artisanal décor is the perfect way to bring comfort into the home while still introducing some excitement!

Aly is amazed by the Shiraz collection from Apparatus Studio. He especially likes the Shiraz Vide Poche. This collection is inspired by the city of Shiraz which has been “the meeting point for an exchange of ideas between the orient and the occident.” The Vide Poche is a modern twist on the classical western forms. The details in this piece are simple and refined. Some details include the spherical feet that prop the bowl, the textured surface on the top, and the bronze base. All of which shows handmade artistry to be desired in the home.

Katie loves the pattern on the Optical Inlay Media Console from Anthropologie. It features inlaid bone and tropical hardwood in a parquet pattern with brass hardware and legs. It is both functional and beautiful for a statement piece. The wood and bone pattern offers variation for an organic appearance. As its name suggests, the pattern gives off optical illusion influence and is enhanced through the contrast of the bone and dark wood. This allows for visual interest and variety in the space.

Alison can’t get enough of the classically Scandinavian designed, Lounge Chair from Kai Takeshima. The aesthetic is timeless and adds a simple piece to a calming environment. The cushions are made of 100% wool fabric and the framing is maple wood. This chair is unique because of the angles and structural design. For a minimalistic, neutral coloured chair, it shows off the support of the back, acting as an accent detail, which fits in with the rest of the chair.

Leina can’t help but love these critters acting as candleholders. The Two Walter Bosse Bear Candleholders, found at 1st Dibs, is a great way to make home decor a little more friendly and inviting. Each candleholder is made of blackened and polished brass and holds a small round candles. Not only does it look adorable on its own, but it doubles in cuteness when paired with a second. These bear figurines are sure to be an eye-catcher on any table.

Shaelynn adores the Mcallister Lamp from Arteriors Home. What first caught her eye was the pattern on the bottom half of the lamp. The pattern is simple and ties in the white lampshade as if it were one piece rather than the base of the lamp and the shade being different entities, like most lamps are. The lampshade is made of white linen with cotton lining, allowing an even radiance in the space. The tribal lines, in an indigo hue, give off an eclectic flair while the inky black paints the canvas of the porcelain form. This contrasts with each other and emphasizes the skirt-like form of the base. This is a good pick for a lamp that exceeds expectations.
