Friday Favourites

Happy Friday, design lovers! Inspired. This week we are all about unique and one of a kind faves that make a statement! We hope they leave you inspired.

Leina is crazy about the Cuon n’ Roll Restaurant in Vietnam. Why? She loves the use of the white iron flower modules. These are used throughout the restaurant as partitions, gates, arches, and overhead sections. The unique use of these iron modules indoors instead of outdoors emphasizes the theme of the restaurant being a “Nang Mai” garden. The arch motif is a feminine touch to the rest of the space and the white iron fits well with the dynamic colour used in the restaurant, allowing it to stand out as its own design.

Aly loves the look of the Ray Bowls in a grey saint Laurent marble from Collection Particuliere. The base has a similarity to a cogwheel. With a concave top surface, it is made into a functional bowl. This is unique because it looks like a piece of decor that is intended to look nice on a shelf. This is true with its seamless design but the three different sizes suggest otherwise. A contemporary outtake on everyday objects!

Alison is smitten with the result of one of Joana Vasconcelo’s installs. The Linda-A-Velha Chair is a collaboration with Roche Bobois, a French furniture retailer. Using crochet fragments as upholstery adds intricacy and interest to your standard furniture pieces. Linda-A-Velha translates to “beautiful old women”. Joana was inspired by handmade lace doilies that are often part of traditional Portuguese interiors. Her innovation has allowed her to do many other crocheted installs.

Katie has also been eyeing up objects in the form of a cogwheel. The Leiden Brushed Brass Table Lamp at CB2 is a sculptural designed by Memelada Estudio. The base of the lamp is made up of channeled metal sheets and finished in brass, creating a pleated look. Lamps that have interesting bases, make it more of a sculpture rather than just a basic lamp. This modern design would look great in any space needing a little extra flare.

Shaelynn has been appreciating the use of terrazzo lately. Mosaique Surface has a lot of options for this look. The Dimensione 3 is a tile combination with honed terrazzo, polished emerald green tile and brushed brass schluter. This mix of tile is a current take on postmodern terrazzo. It adds richness to a space using visual texture, pattern and horizontal gold strips.
