Project of the Month – Ramsay Residence

We are so excited to reveal our most recent collaboration with Alloy Homes. It was an absolute delight to work on this project from start to finish, we hope you love this home as much as we do!

We are feeling all the mid-century modern vibes with this project! The Ramsay residence was designed as a forever home for a busy family of four. We kept the finishes timeless and neutral with a nod to mid-century. In the building of the exterior, Alloy Homes used a combination of wood, black-framed windows, and plaster. We decided to have the exterior door painted a mustard yellow for an unforgettable pop of colour on the facade. The framing of this home displays angles that face the west and south to take in all the views of the Stampede Grounds, making the balcony a perfect spot to watch the fireworks!

A yellow door keeps the entryway bright and cheery. Interior decor stacked on a wood console with a round mirror above makes for a picturesque vignette. Something to look at while waiting at the door and somewhere to put your keys upon your return. And take a look at that coat hook! A functional piece that adds character and gives a sneak peek for what the rest of the home has to offer.

So much space gets wasted with large stair landings. We made good use of this space by adding a built-in desk. Accessorized with art, wall sconces, and stationery items, this small space can feel as cozy as the rest of the home. Let no corner go forgotten! The space in the stairwell is emphasized with the tall windows above the desk. To add a little more interest to this area, the balusters are made with mid century motifs, displayed through the curves.

The laundry room and powder room include a plain white subway tile backsplash for a clean and modern aesthetic. This allowed for more flexibility when it came to art and greenery. These accessories can go a long way for any small space. Accompanied by custom millwork, these functional spaces can be made beautiful with a splash of colour.

Views, sunlight and a cozy interior. With numerous, large windows, the neutral sheer drapes allow for the light to be filtered while still making the space feel open. We selected neutral colours to match this aesthetic and to create a fresh and breathable area to gather with friends or lounge in front of the fireplace. Wood elements helped make the mid-century style stand out within the modern architecture. The fireplace, cladded in a stacked charcoal tile, contrasts with the light neutral colours. We chose this tile because we loved the variation in colour and texture. The large open space provided the perfect opportunity to include a vignette between the living room and the kitchen. Here, we have included a bar cart and two chairs for casual socializing.

Mirroring the living area is an open concept kitchen and dining space. The kitchen features a wall of storage in a white oak finish and sleek black hardware. The rest of the cabinetry is white with quartz Countertop and a white tile mosaic for a bit of visual interest. Having two-toned cabinets offers more variety in colour and texture in the kitchen. This is a great way to incorporate other finishes throughout the home. We used open shelving by the range as to not make the space feel bulky with so much closed storage. This also allows for more layers of accessories in the kitchen and a space to display dishware.

The dining area is one of our favourite parts of this project. We took advantage of the corner window and had a custom banquette seating build to accompany the mid-century dining table and chairs. The large black pendant that hangs above, draws your attention to the homestyle dining nook.

Lastly, the master bathroom. It incorporates finishes similar to the kitchen, such as the tile. We used a grey backsplash here instead and took it all the way to the ceiling to emphasize the volume of the space. The double vanity is cohesive with black hardware and plumbing for a bold accent. The unique angles of the home resulted in this angled shower and vanity.

There are so many great moments in this home, which include many mid-century motifs. We could not be happier with the results!
